Overview:
The Director of Membership Services develops and implements a strategic plan to grow business membership for the Greater Greenville Chamber.  This role is responsible for identifying prospective members, assessing their needs, effectively communicating the Chamber’s value proposition, and securing new memberships.  Additionally, the Director of Membership Services leads a proactive and comprehensive member retention program to ensure long-term engagement and satisfaction.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Membership Investment Sales/Retention
  • Drives membership growth by identifying target businesses within key industry sectors and clearly communicating the value of Chamber membership.
  • Collaborates with Chamber staff while operating independently with full accountability for achieving membership sales goals.
  • Conducts high-level business interactions independently and as part of a coordinated team.
  • Develops and executes strategic plans with measurable objectives to support strong member retention and new member recruitment, aligned with industry best practices.
  • Engages with members who are past due or considering non-renewal, implementing targeted strategies to retain and re-engage at-risk accounts.
  • Monitors member activity and maintains consistent outreach to strengthen relationships and improve overall retention.
Financial/Administrative
  • Utilizes up-to-date financial reports from the Chamber’s membership database to analyze performance and maximize membership revenue.
  • Prepares and delivers timely, accurate membership and performance reports, along with additional reports as needed.
  • Leverages internal reporting and external data sources to establish benchmarks and inform strategies for increasing membership revenue.
  • Oversees all technical aspects of membership operations, including billing processes and post-renewal member communications.
  • Partners with the Finance & Accounting contractor to ensure billing and monthly financial reporting are completed accurately and in compliance with established policies.
  • Supports the development of the annual budget related to membership dues and renewals.
Membership Services
  • Manages and processes membership applications efficiently, ensuring a smooth onboarding experience and early engagement for new members.
  • Maintains an accurate and up-to-date membership database.
  • Consistently records and tracks all member interactions—including visits, sales calls, emails, referrals, and other key account details—within the Chamber’s CRM system.
  • Lead the coordination and scheduling of annual Capstone Meetings with top-tier investors to review YTD impact, discuss sponsorship alignment, and plan Chamber engagement for the upcoming year.
  • Coordinates regular member outreach and visits throughout the year, providing timely and accurate information to all stakeholders.
Other
  • Manages Chamber Ambassador Program
  • Performs additional duties and special projects as assigned by the President.
  • Provides support to staff with event and program logistics, including responsibilities outside of regular business hours as needed.
  • Actively monitors social media platforms to identify new businesses and remain informed about current member news, events, and activities.

Education, Knowledge & Skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, communications or a related field preferred
  • Three to five (3-5) years of professional experience in sales, business development, investor relations, customer service or a closely related field
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Skilled in prospecting, pitching, and closing deals
  • Ability to build long-term relationships and maintain high retention rates
  • Comfortable acting as a public-facing ambassador for the Chamber
  • Operational knowledge of Microsoft Excel, data tracking and reporting tools
  • Knowledge of local business climate is a strong plus

Compensation & Benefits:
  • Annual base salary is commensurate with experience
  • Compensation includes performance-based pay with opportunities to earn monthly commissions
  • Compensation includes monthly travel/cell phone reimbursement
