Shipping Supervisor

Eastern Carolina Vocational Center Inc. has a FULL-TIME opening for a Shipping Supervisor in our Shipping Department. This position is to advise the shipping team with direction for the needs of our customers daily. It involves the daily set-up and coordination with the team to provide our customers with quality service.     
Hours: Mon – Fri; 7:30 am – 4:30 pm
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Enforces ECVC Core Values- Integrity, Teamwork, Accountability, Customer Focus, Mission.
  • Gives workers oral instructions on types, quality, and quantity of items to be shipped.
  • Monitors worker's quantity and quality of work and documents findings.
  • Enforces safety regulations.
  • Trains new employees for work performed in the shipping department.
  • Visually monitor new employees for job task efficiency and accuracy.
  • Trains employees in proper work methods and quality requirements.
  • Trains staff workers in appropriate behaviors, discouraging inappropriate behaviors, and put on notice if necessary.
  • Communicates and resolves issues affecting productivity among employees.
  • Organizes and develops, or obtains training procedure manuals, guides, course materials such as handouts, and visual materials.
  • Completes Time Sheets for the shipping team including vacation, sick, etc. requests in PeopleGuru.
  • Printing Labels for DLA orders along with unit labels for packaging and shipping.
  • Cross Training for other team members in production for assistance in shipping.
  • Liaison for shipping between safety, quality, maintenance, and production departments for a consistent workflow for all individuals involved.
  • Set-up, packaging, and shipping for all Caterpillar Battery orders.
Other
  • Attends weekly supervisor’s meetings and monthly meetings deemed appropriate by their manager.
 Competencies
  • Critical Thinking and Reasoning- Apply principles of rational systems to carry out instructions furnished in written or verbal situations. Regular substantive decisions.  Job content is determined by the incumbent within the bounds of general job objectives.
  • Communication- Ability to understand verbal work orders and instructions; Write straightforward material such as progress reports, procedures, or nonstandard letters. Read and understand material such as very specialized and technical manuals, laws and regulations, etc. Incidental public contact requires normal courtesy, giving/receiving and explaining information, handling complaints, mediating/negotiating, teaching/training, and interpreting and resolving conflicts.
  • Mathematical Skills- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. Calculation of percentages, ratios, or averages.
  • Record Keeping- Enter, check, and verify data; copy and file records; track/collect data; compile, summarize, simple computation/complex computation of data; research and verify data; legally required reports for accreditation.
  • Computer Literacy – Possesses basic understanding of computers and job-specific software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams), Microsoft Business Central, DLA’s Vendor Shipment Module (VSM) website, and GSA’s E-Tools website.
Physical Demands 
  • Light work with lifting and/or moving objects up to 10-20 lbs. occasionally, 10 lbs. frequently, walking or standing most of the time.
  • Ability to hear and speak.
  • Good visual acuity including depth perception, color discrimination, and peripheral vision.
  • Ability to reach, handle, finger.
  • Occasional stooping, crouching.
  • Repetitive use of hands/arms.
Work Environment 
  • Work around moving machinery and equipment.
  • Exposure to noise, weather, or hazardous chemicals.
  • Frequent interruptions.
  • May handle difficult clients/customers.
 
Education and Experience 
  • High school diploma or GED. 
  • 2-3 years supervisory experience in an industrial setting is required.
  • Need to pass in-house forklift certification within the first 30 days of hire.
  • IATA certification is required (International Air Traffic Control Association, Transporting Dangerous Goods).
 
Position Requirements:
Background check must be favorable to work in multiple office buildings. Dependable transportation and excellent attendance are expected.
