Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional nursing care to residents in our long term care area
  • Take report from the outgoing nurse
  • Make routine checks on residents
  • Administers medications and treatment as ordered by the attending physician
  • Assures that all physician orders are carried out in accordance within the nurse’s scope of practice.
  • Review resident care plans and follow interventions listed
  • Ensure all changes and pertinent information on residents is documented in the medical record
  • Maintain inventory of resident drugs and medications on the unit, ensure new meds are ordered and received on a timely manner and that discontinued meds are removed from cart and sent back to pharmacy
  • Admit, discharge and transfer residents in accordance with physicians’ orders and facility policy
  • Review resident care and recommend changes and implement changes when necessary
  • Participate in in-service and orientation programs on a monthly basis
  • Review physician orders to ensure accuracy of MAR, TAR, etc. Review notes and orders from doctor visits and ensure new orders are transcribed to order sheet and documented
  • Take verbal orders from physician and transcribe to the physician order sheet
  • Order residents medication and supplies
  • Assist in developing resident care plans for residents with the Director of Nursing and other staff members
  • Requisition supplies, equipment, linens, etc from central supply
  • Assign duties and is direct supervisor for Nursing Assistants
  • Responsible for all aspects of resident care while on duty
  • Attend and participate in resident Care Planning Committee Meetings
  • Notify the attending physician and family when the resident becomes ill, is injured, or has a condition change

Qualifications:

  • Must be a North Carolina licensed registered nurse or an LPN. Must have CPR certification.
