“Applying to College? Four things to know in the College Admissions Process”
There are hundreds of colleges in the United States. Determining which one will best meet your child’s needs and abilities has become both costly and complex. College admission is not just test scores and grades. Colleges look at test scores and grades, but there are other components to evaluating applications. Factors like activities, interests, sports, work history and volunteerism, in addition to the grades and test scores, are important in the admissions process.
Lisa Mulligan, Ed.M., MPP is a college admissions specialist. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia University, where she was a member of the NCAA Division I Swim Team. She continued her studies at Harvard University in Social Policy and American University in Journalism and Public Affairs, receiving two master’s degrees. Ms. Mulligan also serves on the Alumni Review Committee for the Columbia University Office of Admissions, evaluating students for acceptance to Columbia University.
Ms. Mulligan is an Associate Member of the Independent Educational Consulting Association (IECA) as well as a member of the North Carolina Counselors Association (NCCA), the Higher Education Consulting Association (HECA) and the Southern Association for College Admission Counseling (SACAC).
