The Foundation of Renewal for Eastern North Carolina (FoR ENC) is offering specialized training workshops to citizens, entrepreneurs, business leaders, economic development officers, and others in three eastern North Carolina cities in July: Elizabeth City (July 13), Greenville (July 14), and Jacksonville (July 15). The workshops are designed to provide in-depth, professional instruction in the use of the region’s new business resource, the Virtual Incubator Platform for Eastern North Carolina. The Virtual Incubator Platform for Eastern North Carolina (VIP for ENC) is a technology tool, an Internet-based regional business engine built to promote teaming, improve competitiveness, andgrow and sustain small businesses in eastern North Carolina in four key industry clusters: 1) homeland security/aviation; 2) med-tech/bio-tech/ag-tech; 3) military procurement/military commercialization; and, 4) travel, tourism, and entertainment. In the U.S., small businesses—those with fewerthan 500 employees—create approximately 75% of new jobs. In North Carolina, non-farm small businessesgenerate approximately $12 billion.
